The Five Percent

Happy Friday!! Alright, let's get breakfast out of the way!!

After another exhausting night with Daisy, I woke up bright and early in the mood for something warm and filling. Last weekend, I bought my first protein powder (!) from MOM's organic market. It was their brand of whey protein powder in double chocolate. I decided to add a heaping scoop of chocolate-protein yumminess to the oatmeal and stirred. It tasted like a chocolate oatmeal cookie-sooo good!! I rounded out my breakfast with a bowl of fresh strawberries.

I was browsing the net today and I stumbled on an interesting article on sparkpeople.com. If you are actively trying to lose weight or are just interested in health-related topics, I highly recommend checking this website out. It has food and fitness trackers, tips, articles, and a forum that allows you to post questions or concerns for others to comment on. Cool huh?

Anyways, the article was called "5 Secrets of the 5%". It says that only 5% of people who lose a significant amount of weight actually keep it off long term. Five Percent! It goes on to give rules that these "5%" follow in order to remain successful.

I have to say, this article really got me thinking. As most of you know, I lost 70 pounds and recently hit my goal weight. It is a constant struggle to adjust to this new lifestyle and not still being in "diet mode" (I wrote a post on this which you can read here) I know that the changes I've made will have to be lifelong if I have any chance of being in that 5% of people that keep weight off for life. It's kind of scary to think that the odds are stacked heavily against me. I have faith in myself and my ability to stay strong, but you can't help but wonder: what makes me the exception?

All I can do is continue to eat foods that nourish my body and do great things for it, exercise to remain strong, and keep a positive attitude. If I slip and gain a few pounds, so what? I know how to take those pounds back off and what not to do in the future. In that way, I count myself as lucky :)

Have you ever lost a significant amount of weight? Have you kept it off?
